Sometimes the sweetest business lessons come from unexpected places – and no, we’re not just talking about that biscuit tin in the break room that mysteriously empties itself.
Thinking Outside The Box
Like many local businesses, we’ve been trying to expand our commercial services and build relationships with estate agents in our area. We tried the traditional routes – sending emails, dropping off business cards, making calls. But much like British summer weather, nothing was quite working out as planned.
Then we had a SIMPLE BUT BRILIANT IDEA (if we do say so ourselves): what if we made these connections more personal? More…delicious? After all, who can resist a proper sugar-glazed temptation at 9 AM?
Our Plan
Armed with boxes of fresh Krispy Kreme donuts (and yes, we did sample one or two for quality control purposes – strictly professional, you understand), our team visited six local estate agents. Instead of just dropping off business cards, we brought breakfast and friendly faces. You might say we glazed the way for SUCCESS!
The response was IMMEDIATE AND AMAZING. Those warm, sugary treats didn’t just open doors – they started conversations. Though we suspect a few ties may have been sacrificed to the cause of powdered sugar.
Four out of the six estate agents we visited that day added us to their APPROVED CONTRACTOR LISTS, and we started working with them within 48 hours. Just like that, doors that had seemed firmly shut swung wide open. Turns out the way to an estate agent’s listings is through their sweet tooth!
The Results
Since this amazing turn of events in November 2023, we have INCREASED our sales by £200,000 – all from investing a small amount in Krispy Kreme donuts. Who knew the property market ran on sugar? We’re considering changing our slogan to “We don’t just fix roofs, we fix meetings with treats!”
